Installed but can't start POTC

Yesterday I tried to install stock POTC (to start with) on a friends computer. The install looked ok but when trying to start the game there was an error message saying something about "debugger bla bla" and suggested me to turn that off. In for example WinICE or SoftIce.

Found no such programs on that computer. Anyone knows something about these things?

Windows 10 by any chance?

There seems to be a fairly recent issue that the copy protection on the game makes the game not start.
Try with the ENGINE.exe from the mod.

I think it was windows XP but I can always try the engine from the mod.
