C'mon folks! Tell us yer experience o' de stability (or lack thereof) of Pirates! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

No crashes on my laptop after I updated my ATI drivers (Radeon 9000). I had to respond "once or twice", though, because I had a couple of crashes before the updates.

I just get a bit of flickering with the shadows, but otherwise all of my settings are maxed out.

Everytime I play this game, I get to view my ship at sea for a mere 5 minutes...then all fades to black. It is really damned frustrating, I tell ye. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Every time i play within the first five minutes of play. its really quite annoying when u pay forty quid for a game and it still doesn't work. although saying this firaxis are not the only ones. VTM bloodlines has a bug so bad u had to use a level skip admin code just to finsih the game

<i>Although I've already posted this as a response to the software t&l question, I think it'd be nice in here too as this is the first page I got to with google.</i>

Yarr, I have a dell d500 (Centrino 1.3 512MB RAM WinXP) which has an intel extreme graphics 2 (82852/82855 GM/GME) card. I'm pretty confident <b>this card doesn't support hardware T&L</b> (Intel says so).

I experienced the crash phenomenon too; one of two things happened:
-the game would either just completely crash without any dialogues and I'd get returned to the windows shell; or
-the game would crash and the error would get caught by the Microsoft error reporting system. (errno: c00..005 which is access denied, I think?)

Then I tried a suggestion I read in a post by NobleJMS (turning graphics options all the way up) which fixed the crashing problem.

<!--`QuoteBegin-NobleJms`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(NobleJms)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->This is what you can do: turn the WORLD and OBJECT details ALL THE WAY UP, and run the game.  If it still crashes, try turning ALL the graphic options to their maximum, and run the game.  Again, if it still crashes, try different combination of WORLD and OBJECTS graphic levels, and run the game.[/quote]

I played last night for about 6 hours without a crash. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> (I actually used the exit game interface for the first time)

Of course the game is now rather jerky at times, but generally very playable.

Another issue is that occasionally a model's texture will fail to load and that model's surface will render as a gold reflective surface. (the models for the player character and the `sign-up` officer for the dutch pretty much never load)

Of course it's not perfect, but I have been able to play and am quite enjoying it. I have also experienced some joy turning down certain graphics options to increase performance.

All in all I am most happy that the game is working on my laptop as I am far from home on a contract and don't really fancy having to wait to get home to play.

Fred Bob would now be changin' his vote tew 'Once or twice' because he recently be experiencin' some freeze ups an' black screen cyclin' tew Desktop weirdness in a late game (score 110+) dancin' sequence! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Why? Best Fred Bob be figuring is dat 'latest' nVidia driver set (v.67.22) did not be settin' well wid me Quadro FX 500 card! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Solution? Fred Bob rolled de video driver back tew v. 65.73, de one Winders Update had installed! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> Tried de same dance sequence usin' de prior save tew me original problem an' all werked well! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Moral? De 'latest' drivers ain't always de best drivers! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

every time i play i crash. its a shame cuz the short while i play i thoroughly enjoy it. o well maybe the new patch (whenever it comes out) will help

Crashes every time I play the sucker and it's really start to annoy crappers out of me. Played for about 50 mins last night and it crashed about 15 times. That's the worse it's ever been. It used to crash just when I was dancing but now it doesnt care what I'm doing.

Piece of crap.

Aye Fred Bob,jest experienced me first crash with same driver, appears de latest drivers ur tweaked fer GF6600 and 6800 cards an may not werk as well fer older video cards <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

On basically the same hardware except for diff motherboard models, it rarely crashes for me, but will never even start on the other computer - it just throws out the "do you want to send a report to microsoft" thing when you try to run it, you don't even get a loading screen or whatever.

Crash all the time

Voted "Crash every time"

Kinda annoying... still... I bought the game for nostalgia reasons, played the darn (orginal) game for months, years ago <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Any way to enable debug ?
