Solved How do I become a real pirate?

Fluen

Freebooter
Is it possible to become a member of the pirate nation - get a positive value in relations?

I have already established a neutral relation to them via the governor of La Tortue. And a lot of plundering under Jolly Roger brought my relations-value from -30 to zero. But Isenbrant Jurcksen just tells me, he's busy, when I speak to him without a mission to complete, and the governors of La Tortue and Turks only offers to improve a bad relationship with the pirates.

Is there a person somewhere, who will let me join the pirate nation, like it's possible with the governors of the other nations?

You can go to Nevis Pirate Settlement, and I think you have to have a pirate flag hoisted not a personal and he should offer you a letter of Marque

@Fluen: Now that I know which modpack version you're running, the answer to your question becomes quite different.
You cannot truly join the Pirates in your game version. If you try, the Pirates become friendly and all other nations turn hostile.
Nothing else happens and you cannot gain any points with them.

Joining the Pirates for real and being able to gain ranks with them is quite a new feature.
It was started on with Beta 3.3, made into a proper feature in Beta 3.4 and has recently been fixed and improved for the Beta 4.1 WIP.

So if you want to be able to do this, it is a good reason to take the plunge and see what we've accomplished these past four years. ;)

Ahoy mates
Maybe it is stupid to ask but I don't know where to promote my Pirate rank when it is green ?
Tried at Nevis but he just tell me he is busy.
Thanks for help
Got 4.1 Build

Tortuga, a.k.a. La Tortue, is officially French. They tolerate pirates and the place looks piratey but officially it's French. A French soldier in the tavern once tried to arrest me for being a pirate. xD

Turks Island might work. If that really is the only place where you can get pirate promotions then you're stuffed in "Revolutions" and "Napoleonic" periods because Britain has taken it over then. Join the Royal Navy instead. :napoleon

Once you join the Pirates, then Tortuga changes to ACTUAL PIRATE.
So despite it usually being French, my above post is still accurate. :cheeky

As per my above point, this is not a problem. :no

Okay thanks cause of La Tortue is French I thought it cant be but I will try next time.
I got my Commodore on other save game but it is kind of funny I am a Naval Officer and at the Naval base in Atigua I can't do anything. :D

If you're indeed officially a Pirate, you should see that Tortuga now belongs to Pirate.

What kind of things can you not do?
I thought those had a "professionalnavy" check? Or maybe I'm confusing it with the Hornblower storyline custom dialog files.

The store owner seems to dont trust me I can't use the shipyard for repair.
I started a free play with James Norrington as Naval Officer I am now at rank 7 I will get a screenshot as soon as I can.

There's no governor at Antigua so you can't get ship-hunting missions. Or, for that matter, promotions. You also can't sell ships because the shipyard only does repairs.

I don't think the port admiral has any checks on "professionalnavy" which means he'll treat you as a privateer, which means you'll get ship escort missions.

Charleston is much more interesting. It has all the facilities. And a pirate base round the corner, living in mortal fear of the day you get the "Landing Party" perk... Any time I'm required to go to Antigua by storyline or sidequest, I always call in at Charleston first to dispose of any prize ships and cash in any promotions I've collected on the way.

Did you tell the store owner and shipyard that you have a Letter of Marque? Which you do, even though you're a naval officer. It's necessary for the mechanism by which you get promotions. The only naval officer who doesn't have one is Horatio Hornblower when he's playing his own storyline, because promotions and the occasional demotion are handled by the story. He gets a LoM when the main story ends so he can continue free-play as a normal officer.

Good point. Maybe we should have a Feature Request to make the Antigua naval base more navy-friendly in Free Play.
Of course those limitations were added for the sake of variety at a time when "actually joining the navy" was hardly even considered as a game feature! :shock
