i have an issue with my computer (yes, ANOTHER!). for some reason, the contents of a folder are often WAY smaller than the size of the file. example: it sais 456MB, but if i count up all the space taken by the files in the folder, i count a size of about 2MB! what's causing this? it's taking up huge masses of space and preventing me from downloading the mods. please help!

spy/malware, viruses?
harddisk effin up?
hidden files?
(select folderoptions > show hidden files)

thoroughly check with
windows defender
adaware
avira

all GREAT free software, simply google for it.
(i wont take the hassle and put links in)

and finally, what about the good ole "scandisk" to check if your hd is OD'ing on you?
i dunno where such a prog is implemented in the newer windows version, but im sure its somewhere.
you can also run the windows programs to free up disk space and defrag it, ofc after you tried the stuff above.

oh.. and i hope, you ALWAYS have a good firewall running?

no game whatsoever! it's my computer. it's just a 'users documents' file. but where should it be then?

i know that there are no viruses, i have windows defender, and i do have a firewall running. i'll search for that avira and adaware. see if that makes a difference. the problem is, i can't install that much because the computer thinks that there is little space left.

The folder information is probably reporting the amount of space actually used by data, but the files themselves report the amount of hard drive space used by the file. All files are padded out to a specific size which means the size on the disc will be larger than the size of the data.

Perhaps Defragmenting the Hard Disc will do some good here? Also be sure to check if there are any hidden files in the folder.

defragmentating worked the first time, but it didn't seem to work the last time i did it. maybe it will disappear when i try again. cos i will. i'll try all these things now, and keep posting about any changes.

well, it turned out it was simply the hidden files, a lot of which where things that i thought i had un-installed, but where still there. it seems that i can now install build 13, but i'll wait untill those last minute issues are fixed and until the version that you can install over build 12.1 is finished.

I don't know if I'll make that version you can install over Build 12.1 at all. I have waaay too much to do already. I would rather prefer to not upload another Build 13 full version either. The currently released Build 13 DOES work properly; it's just the installation process that doesn't work 100% right on German versions of the game.

but what about all those little mistakes made in the last moment? i hope i will be able to download build 13 then. i have more than enough space now to avoid the issue, but i'm not sure about the issue (i thought that that was the problem, i could be wrong), so it still might not work.

The only little mistake I made was that it says the O-key is for looting in the controls text file while it is, in fact, the T-key. That is the single mistake that is in the actual files. There are a couple of bugfixes and new ships that are not in there and the Treasure Galleon and Royal Galleon that are both in there are actualy the same ship, but there are no actual mistakes with the code itself.

So if there are bug fixes to add, meaning that B13 has bugs, might you be releasing a B13 update with just the above mentioned content?

Sure. I'll try to do that today. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

turns out i was right about the problem with my computer, or at least more or less. it turns out that it installs the download in the temporary internet files first, and then copies it to the file i had told the download to put it there. it takes up twice the space as a result. luckily, i can remove the download after i added it to the game, so i still have the space.
