Another should be intuitive fact about the game, but people seem to overlook the helpfulness.
Tired of crossing the Caribbean looking for food, medicine or rum only to find out stores have little in stock?
No problem, if you plan a little ahead.
You can stored large amounts of goods on your ships BEFORE you put them into port control.
The main advantage is the goods do not spoil, and there are no rats to eat the commodities, and its cost nothing beyond the initial storage fee for port control.
So, if you planning for a large expedition, is best to have or buy at least one ship with a large storage capacity and then place it in port control for the duration of most of the game.
I generally keep a ship at Port Royale, Fort De France, and Port-Au-Prince.
Then over the course of the game I stock the ship with powder, ammo, food, weapons, medicine, sailcloth, and planks.
You will never have any issues ever again.
This way you are always prepared when "plague" strikes the Caribbean and medicine is scarce!
