Not a Bug Friendly Fort devastating Fleet

In the main quest of the main character of the main game, once you get to the invasion of Bridgetown by the English and your friend is supposed to be manning the fort, well, she fires on your fleet and wrecks the hell out of it before you even get into confrontation. What the he.ll?

See where the fort is. See where the enemy ships are. Try not to be between them.

This is easier if you only have one ship of your own instead of a whole fleet. If you have a savegame from before you went to the tavern to trigger the battle, go to the shipyard and berth some of your ships.

Another hint: when you've finished this battle, you'll want at most one ship besides your own when you sail to Cozumel. You're going to want to be able to take at least two prize ships there...
