Need Help French patent lost after attacking enemy

Hello,
I am currently doing Hero of the Nation DLC and my mission is to deliver some baron to Saint Martin. When I gointo battle map, fort fires at me, and small fleet engages. Mission log says I should get rid of this fleet. However after shooting one voley, I lose my patent, my title and my reputation with France. I had the same problem when engaging Victory, I just assumed I cannot engage allies while being French officer, but the former example is actual quest from this DLC. Am I doing something wrong? Is it a bug?

It's not a bug, during the missions of that dlc you can't attack the allies as you say.

I too have suffered the consequences of participating in the siege of an English colony and attacking the wrong side.

I seem to remember that in one of the dialogues they say that.

I understand that I am not allowed to engage French allies when doing Hero of the Nation DLC, however the situation I described happened during one of Hero of the Nation DLC mission, which required me to attack 3 Dutch ships near Saint Martin. Those ships engaged me and it was part of the quest (escorting baron to Saint Martin) to destroy them. I think it is a bug but I found a way to bypass it. It seems like patent loss only happens if you shoot cannons from TAB view ( first person on ship ). If you shoot from ship 3rd person battle view you can destroy those Dutch boats.

This game has many peculiarities that make it even more attractive.
