Mister Cotton,
Black Bart, hmmm... Black Bart.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Turns out that Black Bart was the nickname for Bartholomew Roberts, a very successful Welsh pirate.

I prefer Black Angus, myself! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

Personally, I tend to favor the resourceful pirates like Morgan, his tricks inspired Sabatini to write <i>Captain Blood</i>. It makes for a good story, in my book, when the odds appear stacked against one side, but they manage to pull a fast one that sets them on top. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/guns.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2guns" border="0" alt="guns.gif" />

There were a number of efficient Pirates. Some have already been mentioned, but let's not forget Scottish born Captain Kidd, the English Privateer Henry Avery and the American born High Society Pirate Thomas Tew or the Barbary Corsair Dragut Rais.

An interesting pirate from the 14th century was a man called Stortebeker (? spelling ), Master of the Mad Dog. It was reputed in order to join the crew of the Mad Dog, a man must drink a huge beaker of beer in one gulp <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" /> . Now that was a test.

Though he was an American naval hero, John Paul Jones was labeled a pirate by the British Crown. He eventually earned a nickname, "The Dunkirk Pirate", which was given to him by English sailors.

Mister Cotton,
You say that like it's a bad thing..... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Sounds like Morgan did a little too much of everything, I think I read somewhere that Vodoo or Vodun rituals were involved in his funeral rites. (Creepy... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> )

Captain Kub,
I'm sure your Dad is right, piracy appears to have always been an equal opportunity profession throughout its distingushed existance. A quick Yahoo search came up with this;
<b>Count Maurycy Benioski</b>

<a href="http://www.privateerdragons.org/pirates_famous.html" target="_blank">http://www.privateerdragons.org/pirates_famous.html</a>
(See about halfway down the page) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

If you write a report and submit it to Keith or William, they may post it on the main site. Here's a link to the reports that other members have written;
<a href="http://www.piratesahoy.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=5&id=26&Itemid=34" target="_blank">http://www.piratesahoy.net/index.php?optio...id=26&Itemid=34</a>

Edit, Arghh, the link above doesn't work right, click on this link and look under the history section, sorry. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Here's also a list off of Wikipedia as well;
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pirates" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pirates</a>

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Mr Cotton. Yes, I agree there are numerous pirates in modern times, probably to many to list here. A book you may want to look into is called "The Way of the Pirate", by Robert Downie. This book is a Who's Who in Davey Jones locker. It lists the names of a number of pirates from A to Z. However, it is not a complete listing, but covers the most notable and some unknown pirates. And yes, there was a pirate with the last name starting with Z. According to the book his name was Captain Zumiro. He was an English slaver who turned pirate. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I see my country has the dubious honour of a 20th century pirate on the wiki link - Boysie Singh <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Good research Sir Mings.

i'd have to say i have a top 2 on my list. my favorite pirate is captain teach, a man that lights his beard <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" /> on fire to make it look like he's the devil himself <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" /> (i know i would have shat me pants had i needed to fight him <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" /> ), anyways, thats is by far one hell of a pirate <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> . but the most efficient pirate in my mind would by far be john roberts, taken captive by pirates <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> and then to serve as their leader <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> six months later. He was able to take more ships <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" /> then anyother pirate in history (456) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" /> , well thats one hell of a pirate aswell. but in the end it isn't really the pirates that i like, as much as i do the life <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> !
