<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> m8's !

I just registered with this community and want to say hello to ye all <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
As I read from the PotBS forums, the Dutch nation is excluded from the game.
Being Dutch, the idea to sail under foreign flag does not appeal to me.
That's why I'll fight for the Pirate cause under Dutch colours !

I'm sure there are many Dutchies feeling the same way I do.
So if your planning to play PotBS and want to kick some Brits, French and Spanjards <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" /> , join the Pirate cause and wave your rightfull colours !

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Welcome aboard, Vetje.

PeterWillemoes is not Dutch either. But I am. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

i guess so. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Dutch enough for me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Dutch.

But sometimes people from the high northren part of the Netherlands ask if I come from Belgium (never heard of Noord-Brabant perhaps :p) but I only live 7 kilometers from Belgium. (could take my bicycle for that distance)

And I don't like attacking Dutch ships, so that must count for something also. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I think he wants you to join a Dutch community in PotBS (PotBS does´nt have a Dutch faction)
I always choose Dutch faction, because this tiny nation resembles the Danish. Really its unfair how the Dutch always are represented in Pirate games because you had a few more islands in the caribbean than we had <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

LOL. The Dutch were a big seafaring nation once though. As far as I know, so were the Danish, only several hundreds of years earlier with the Vikings. I admit to not knowing much of Danish history. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

neither do i. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> i only discovered on this forum that we where allied with them once. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Oh..thats most unfortunte <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Not being a nationalistic hypocrate, at least I feel I should inform the younger generations of something of great importance (Offspring from a wise old chinese man who spoke: if one has no past, one has no future!)

Every battle in Danish naval history was all about trade. As our geographic position suggests, we hold the key to the Baltic Sea and the other way around: the key to the North Sea from the Baltic Sea. Denmark was then a Kingdom containing Norway, large parts of Sweden and most of the Baltic countries (Estonia, Letland and Litau) and Sweden fought to get their land back, along with the right to these taxes from passaging ships from various countries, including Holland. Along with taxes from countries like Britain, France, Spain and Holland, the winning country would make German, Russian, Baltic and the (damn) Swedish cities pay for their traderoutes to the rest of the world through our straits. This way, Denmark and Sweden have fought eachother for as long, we can remember (1000+ years). Norway was held prisoner in this game, as it was belonging to Denmark from the dark viking ages until 1814, the year we lost everything to the (damn) Swedes (Sweden realized Norway was too expensive to hold and gave them their independence in 1840).
Everything we conquered in early history, we lost later. We will always remain as a footnote in naval history.

The strong naval bonds between Denmark and Holland started in 1520, when King Christian II had to flee for his life due to his killing of every single Swedish noble citizen in Stockholm (The Stockholm Bloodbath) and Holland was the only willing country to offer him protection, in exchange for the whole Danish Royal Navy. We learnt a lot from the Dutch, i.e. we used Dutch shipbuilding methods up to around 1740, where the French shipbuilding techniques took over. Today, most of the names used for seafaring in Denmark are still of Dutch origin, except for i.e. "Starboard and port" which are ancient viking expressions. Your navy came to help many times fighting the Swedes, amongst your most impressive admirals were Michael Adrianszoon de Ruyter, who is also known as the man who did a great job with the Brits in the battle of the Downs and Dunkerque.

Like Denmark, everything Holland achieved in the earlier centuries, they lost to longterm stronger enemies later on. Our enemies were not quite as noble later on in history as Yours. The winner always get to write the history, you know. Sweden did not conquer France and Spain - England did.. And the day England finally entered our waters in 1801, they conquered a weakened Danish navy in a poor condition, worn out for centuries by wars with Swedish and German fleets, struggling for a free passage to the North Sea. We were never to rise again as the great sea power, we once were.

Yes, but you still have Greenland. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
