Need Help Capturing Forts for yourself

Ahoy sailors!

I've been looking through the Forum, looking for an explanation on how to capture a fort for yourself. I tried it ingame (I don't know if Town and Fort is any difference.) and attacked a fort. I don't remember which fort it was but I was playing as Hector Barbossa, in the Cursed mode. When I had taken over the fort and I talked to the Governor and told him I want to change the owner. I had English, French, Spanish, Pirate and Dutch. There was no option to choose personal or the alike, also I don't know if this is normal but I looted 1000000 gold from it.

So how can I capture a fort for myself?

If you take it for yourself - you have to assign officers as the new Governor and Fort Commander – so make sure you have enough officers to do this – you also receive daily tax income from the colony and can change the name of the colony.

I've been looking everywhere for this page. I did not have any officers I don't think, perhaps that is why.
