Build 14 Beta 1 Release Prior to 21 January 2010

I want to release our current game version before that time as Build 14 Beta 1.

I have gotten to work on getting the files for the installer ready and the coming days,
I'll be trying to figure out how to make it as small as possible AND have it working on multiple language game versions.

If anybody has any content to submit for inclusion, please make it available before the end of next week.
It would also be appreciated if people could write some articles or make some videos and screenshots
that we can use to build anticipation for the imminent move to BETA stage.
 
Good good. At least WBT slipped under the radar and appeared in time..

Now of course we need to see to it before you disappear that this isn't a one-person marketing project. Good intentions are never enough these days.
 
Now I just need to find the time to actually get the files ready.
Why do I get the feeling I'll be cutting it kind of close? Again? :facepalm

Willemstad Builders' Trials

Have also amended waterlines for at least a dozen ships that appear in sinking condition (exception of steamers which run beyond design tonnage)
WBT final configuration statistics were also assisted from advice of Morgan Terror, Rum Runner and Bumpkin in threads such as these. These are people who know their sailing stuff (theory or practical) and can be credited as technical advisors.

May also want to mention the historically rebalanced stats for almost all 220 ships (except tartanes) based on historical research by moi.

When everything's complete, Captain Maggee suggested the arcade flag which just about makes available two games in one with completely different stats for realistic and arcade mode.

Might also want to mention Thagarr's manual efforts (for modding tutorials and the prototype Build manual itself)

Modeling the ship is one thing, having someone ensure the entire package looks right, and suggest additional improvements throughout deployment phases maximises release quality.
Sailing model for new ships as well within the WBT project; manual cannon alignment for sp_battlegalleon
Since models won't be updated after release, so-called 'commissioner' ensures there is interest in modelling and completing the vessel and frees up modeler for other projects once basic .gm file is deployed.
This cuts the development time of steam frigates from 'several years running and no one's working on the idea' to 4 days.
Galleon San Martin was moved from initial Dec 09 prototype stage to final outfitting within the space of a week.

Just wanting to say there is in these two new ship classes more than just "modeler and texturer"; if that were the case the battlegalleon wouldn't integrate into game balancing or historical data, nor would the steamship have a backstory and be reasonably balanced and sailable with distinct advantages in certain points of sail.
So I'm whatever committee that finances the ships and takes them through acceptance trials :p

You may or may not want to appoint me to oversee integration of completed new ship models for WBT stats (don't want shorthull ships to magically sail at 16 kts again) and some future naval contracts (San Martin razee version, etc). And of course maintain the existing shiplist (don't bother me with walkfile requests, I deal with ships not crews :p )

If you can wait until tonight, Acheron texture review is scheduled for.. 12 hours from the time of this posting. Hopefully the San Martin original texture will be finished by then. Yes there is a schedule :p

I tried to be as short as possible with the feature list.
Of course the WBT project encompasses much more than the quick points mentioned in the feature list,
which is the reason for the referral to the actual WBT documentation.

Of course you also did the stats for the new ships (steamships and Spanish Battle Galleon),
but can't that be considered a part of the overall WBT project?

In any case, feel free to reword or add anything to the above so that I can use that instead.
That's the reason for me posting this in the first place,
so people can change the wording for their projects so everybody is happy with it. :doff

I've nothing to add for this time, I've done some works recently but i've no time to finalize them now, i'll catch the next release! :)
 
I think I've got pretty much all files ready now. Just making the installers, testing once more and uploading.
In the end, I got the Assassin, Jack Sparrow and Hornblower storyline updates as well as the Black Pearl 3.0,
so it should end up pretty darn good.

To decrease download size on the Light installer, I'm not including SWS's compressed texture files in that.

Edit: Light installer is now just under 100 MB.
Reason is because I renamed a lot of ship folder names.
I could've decreased size a lot by batching all that, but I don't have time to do that.
So you'll just have to live with it this way. :shrug
 
Good news on filesize: B13 Final + Build 14 Alpha 10 Full = 1.67 GB to download
Build 14 Beta 1 is about 1.54 GB to download. So we managed to decrease the size.
Now if we can do some serious quality control work and batching for Beta 2,
I'm sure we can bring down the download size even further. :yes
 
Guess there's no way you could release it today, eh? Like...uh...a birthday present for a certain someone? :cheeky (I'm joking) :blah:
