Boarding

is there anyway other ships can board each other oor is it only the first person player who has that ability <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Yes, only the player can board the AI, and vice versa, the AI cannot board another ship controlled by the AI. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Although it would be fantastic if this could be done.

Yep, only AI vs. Player or P. vs AI.
This should be doable, but the problem is there'd be no _visual_ representation of it.
Well, sounds we could do. And maybe some smoke and fire. But the crew would behave like before (even though there _are_ POS ABORDAGE modes for the seapeople /defined/, I guess just not turned on).
And we'd have to add the AI handling to make the AI get close enough, and then stop the ships, and...
Well. Doable, but it would take some considerable effort.

Maybe they could lock, like in PR. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Or would that be dabbling with the engine? Sorry, n00b questions fired at ya again... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

If two ships came within boarding range it would just be a a matter of the game enginen adding the ante no of guns ,no of crew ,morale etc it would certainly add a bit more excitement to sea engagements <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Rico: Oh, we could cut their maxspeed to 0 fine, the problem is getting the AI to _want_ to hit each other, and moreover at the right angle.
The only other problem is I don't yet know how to make the boarded ship change sides or surrender correctly. Sea_AI groups don't behave the way they should, or at least I haven't been able to get them to.
(Well, they can surrender to the pchar's group, but making them neutral to a third party is the problem--same problem with the surrender mod actually.)

We realized it yet in our add-on

AI can board AI and Player can order his companions to make aboard to enemy by his choose

So it "should be doable" and can be doable and done.

And yes it is calculating lots of states by ships, crew, skills, orders and more other.

Sorry, not many of us played the addon due to it being in a language not many of us here understand... How is boarding done in the mod? Do they lock like in Port Royale? Or how? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" /> Sorry about the n00b questions again... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> Can't... seem... to... control... my... hunger... for... knowledge... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

ALexusB: Hey, great!
How are you handling relation switch after boarding? I couldn't get a ship to detach and enter a neutral group successfully--if it was not the commander, nothing would happen, and if commander, entire group would switch.
Do you have to force a reload to sea?

{ There's a ship_change_group message, but it's never used, and it crashed the engine every time I tried it }

One thing that does anoy me a little with the AI is when you come out of the world map and your ships are nicely in line astern <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> they immediatly pull up and swing to starboard or port , any reason for this because it gets a bit tricky when your facing superior numbers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> to get the rest of your squadron to stay in formation , even a loose formation would do sfterall you need every gun in an engagement . <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

Exactly so is there a cure in the offing <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Not from me for some time, but I'd love to see it to.
I have some ideas on how, if anyone's interested, just no time to take it on.

That is, add two formation modes (and the third, 'none').
(those more up on terminology, please correct mine. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> )
1. Turn in succession (column turn)
2. Turn by elements (turn at once)
Under the former, when you begin a turn, we store the xz position of your ship. Once the next ship in line is within spitting distance of that spot, it starts to turn as well (we give it move towards previous--in this case player--ship). And so forth with the other ships if any.
Under the latter, once you start to turn, we give all ships in your formation move orders to a point at right angles to their present course (and do this a number of times if necessary if the player is still turning). Then once the player is settled on course, we give move orders to points directly ahead of their current courses--or, rather, because turn rates may be different, points on a line perpendicular to your settled course.

For this, it's probably a good idea to implement a helm system--Mehrunes was already half-way there with his rudder code--whereby you can set a course rather than simply holding down the turn key (with emergence override rudder commands if necessary).

Then we can use the same system to keep AI groups in line astern for engagements (if their morale is good enough to keep formation).

Some very good ideas there, Nathan! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> Wish I could pitch in but I don't understand enough of the code to do so... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

Thanks for good idea <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I just killed (sank) one of them (my companion or enemy)

@Do you have to force a reload to sea?@
No <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> I tried many time then created mode "survive in sea" on tartane... but it rechange ship only in 5% case... so I finished try

so, my aboard mod create battle companion vs enemy and one of them will have killed
And aboard can be between any 2 computers (france vs spaine) They just have to be close to each other

I want to make auto rob of cargo goods and change ships... but didn't think to stay them on water...

Thanks!

Out of curiosity... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

Is there a way to try this - if you have three companion ships, they can board other ships - and CAPTURE them rather than sink them? This way you could theoretically have three companion ships EACH with three more companion ships (and so on, like a pyramid?)... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Just a thought... I just would hate to see all those sinking ships! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Hmm, are you one of those militant vegans, Petros? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

The fleet that sailed for Troy will be <span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>tiny</span> by comparison! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I think the captured ship "pyramid scheme" would be neat, and lucrative!

I would be just as happy if I could trade a ship that I had just captured for one of the ones that my officers was sailing rather than my own. Transfer the commander from one ship to another, as it were.

That way, if after having captured some pirates, I happen to run into an unfriendly national fleet with a bunch of MOW's, I could exchange the prizes that I currently have for better ones.
