I was thinking this last week-end to make a sequence of quests only "unlocked" if you choose to play a new game as Bartolomeu o Portugues. Problem : I'll need MANY months to make this seeing that I would ONLY have a couple of hours available per week-end. Tell me what you think....

<u>First Quest :</u>

The story starts at Port-au-Prince. It's your first time on the archipelago, you came from Europe. Quickly, you meet an inhabitant telling you should find out some work at the buccaneer camp. You meet a merchant there and he accepts you as captain of his barque. So, the first missions are to deliver goods on the archipelago. You enlist Emilio Soares as officer.

<u>Second Quest :</u>

After these missions, you've got enough money to buy the barque belonging to the merchant of the Buccaneer camp. Just after leaving the store, you meet a French pirate (Roxanne Lalliere) who prepares an expedition at Santiago of Cuba. You accept to be his partner. But before going there, you also meet Pedro Rivera who wants to be your officer during the expedition : you agree. The mission is to steal some precious goods stocked in a warehouse before to be sent to Spain. But during the operation, a quarrel happens about the Pedro Rivera's behaviour (he infringed your "pirates' code"). You decide to leave him on Cuba like punishment.

<u>Third Quest :</u>

After selling the loot of the expedition at the Buccaner camp, you decide to go to Conceição, you learned the Portuguese governor will pay a big reward anyone able to capture or kill an English corsair (Nathaniel Hawk himself <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> ). After accepting this mission, you go in search of this corsair (need to go to Greenford and Tortuga). You find him at Charleston, capture him and deliver him to the Governor. Like reward the Governor gives you some gold and goods and you can keep the Nathaniel Hawk' ship : a caravel. You pay the shipyard owner to customize the ship and rename her : Santiago.
You decide to sell the goods given by the governor at the Buccaneer camp for a better price. While you are at the buccaneer camp bargaining the goods you want to sell to the merchant, one of your sailors appears announcing that Pedro Rivera accompanied with some pirates is stealing The Santiago. You go to the shore, fight some of his men and capture them (Francisco Cruz is among them). Unfortunately, Pedro Rivera is leaving the bay with your ship. After questioning the Pedro Rivera's men and without any value for you, you let them go.

<u>Fourth Quest :</u>

The merchant of the Buccaneer camp accepts to lend you a new barque until you earn enough money to buy a new one or steal one. You decide to attack a Spanish ship off Cuba. You meet and capture a Spanish light Galleon there. This time, you will sell the goods of this ship at Redmond. But off Redmond, you are captured by three Spanish warships. Your destination : Santo Domingo. Arrived at Santo Domingo Port, you are still locked up in the cargo hold. You and Emilio Soares succeed in escaping from the ship and go to the village near Santo Domingo. You find someone who accepts to take you to the Buccaneer camp. Arrived there, you decide to make an expedition to recapture the Spanish light Galleon before she leaves the Santo Domingo Port. You recruit some men and enter at night with them in the Santo Domingo Town worn like monks (so as not to be recognized by the guards). In the port you can see the light Galleon moored (BTW : need to use the new system of jetty) and guarded by two soldiers. You and your men kill the soldiers (BTW : maybe I will also add a fight in the ship) and take control of the ship. You leave the port without being detected by the fort).

<u>Fifth Quest :</u>

You decide to look for enemy ships off Khael Roa. But you meet a Spanish Battleship there. You contrive to flee and decide to repair your ship on a deserted Cuban shore. Off Cuba, a violent storm sank your ship. You and some of your men succeeded in reaching a shore (BTW: need to create some temporary locations for Cuba). You cross the jungle and meet a patrol of Spanish guards. You succeed in escaping but not your men. You find in another shore some smugglers unloading goods. You explain your story and they only accept to take you to Cayman. It would be for them too dangerous to help you to attack the guards. Arrived at Cayman, you decide to go to the tavern to find a captain available for freeing your crew.

<u>Sixth Quest :</u>

BTW : It will be the Bartolomeu's quest but you play the role of ...Bartolomeu. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
Need to change the final : at the Redmond town square, the captain who help you will be killed so you get back his ship and his crew as the new captain.

<u>Seventh Quest :</u>

At Pointe-à-Pitre Port, you meet an old friend (Roxanne Lalliere). While you're talking to him, you recognize Francisco Cruz...
BTW : Santiago quest slightly modified....(Of course you fight Pedro Rivera on the 'Santiago' deck)

sounds very much like a mainquest. i didn't read it through due to lack of time, but it sounds interesting.

An alternative to the main quest(s) would be great and it sounds like ít´d be fun to play, so go for it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />:

I would love to play these quests!
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

Where are the big ships!?

This sounds really fun, except for the small size of all the ships you use. I can't live without the prospect of getting a man'o'war!

Maybe this quest should only be available in a specific era ? You've mention caravels, a lot of Spanish and some French Buccaners... That sounds like an early era. And that would solve the question about big ships (no please, no MoW!)

First, thanks for your replies <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

<b>If </b> I have to choose a period, it would be The Spanish Main (1600-1680) because the real Bartolomeu lived in the Caribbeans from 1660 to 1672. So no big ships <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> . Anyway, I want something very realistic. But before starting this project, I want the Pieter's advice. And don´t expect this project ended before September <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> , because a big part of this work will be made during the Summer (due to a lack of time). My idea is to make in July and August the last four quests and from this month until June the first four quests.

so, this could be the main quest for the spanish main period? would be fun to have a main quest for each period.

So something like:

Spanish Main - This one <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
The Golden Age - Jack Sparrow?
The Colonial Powers - ??? (maybe normal main quest)
Revolutions - ???
Corsican - Hornblower OR Master and Commander

All quests would need to be completely optional, sbecause although some (the original) you can get but not do anything with, others (Hornblower) would be your game, until you completed it, or got to one of the few sections you can sail around in.

I'm against the idea of one single main quest for each era. As a miminum, maybe, but not as a maximum.
On the opposite, I think quests related to the perticular character you've chosen at the begining of the game is a good thing - even if they're not 'main' quests.
So for 'Corsican' we could have both Hornblower or Master and Commander (even if I think one is enough indeed), and for exemple a French main quest that would be much interesting.

A good thing in Seadogs is that you have as many main quests then nations, all main quests being very interesting (but some easier than others.) That's what PotC always lacked.

Pirate_KK is working on enabeling different main quests. Each main quest has it's own code folder including it's own quest character and location init files and it's own quests_reaction.c. However, currently there is only one full main quest being the original game quest. Pirate_KK added a second one being Beatrice's quest from AoP as a test, but that quest only contains the first scene and nothing else. It would be brilliant to have Bartolomeu's story as another main quest. Also perhaps we should then separate Jack Sparrow's story from the original Nathaniel Hawk main quest instead of what we're doing now.

<i><b>How about this:</b></i>

When you start a new game, you can choose a pre-defined gameplay profile (Nathaniel Hawk, Jack Sparrow, Bartolomeu o Portugues, Horatio Hornblower, Jack Aubrey, etc.). Each profile would have it's own starting location, starting ship, character model and name, quests and gameplay era. Of course several quests can use the same gameplay are and there might also be era's without a quest, because the amount of main quests depend on what is being made and what is being made depends on what people WANT to make. So if nobody wants to make a Golden Age quest, there won't be any. We can't really decide on what we WANT in this respect; we can only use what is done by the various modders.

Of course there will be plenty of people who wouldn't like to have to choose from these pre-defined player profiles, so there will also be an option for creating a custom character similar to the Choose Character interface we have now. For the custom character you can select character model (from (almost) all character models in initModels.c), character name, nationality, ship (from all class 7 ships), ship name and starting location.

If the cheatmode is enabled, you can then also select starting level, starting money and the class limitation is removed on the starting ship choice. This would be most useful for modders as well, because then you can quickly test the game on various levels or test models and ships without having to mess around with any code. Pirate_KK had an additional idea of adding buttons so that you can choose only to view character models of a certain type. This would help in finding the model you want quickly, because otherwise the list would be positively huge.

how about each main character being set in a certain age, having it's own personal main quest? that way both would be covered.

Don't worry, I'm going to start this main quest next week-end <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Except for some quests some era's would be unavailable. That does make things a bit more complitayed. I had just thought to give each main quest it's own pre-defined era so that if you start the "Jack Sparrow" quest, you'd always get the <i>Colonial Powers</i> era and if you start the Bartolomeu quest you'd always get the <i>Spanish Main</i> era, etc. If we go through with this, we can also keep the original Build 13 Nathaniel Hawk quest with the treasure of Khael Roa and sinking/capturing the Black Pearl at the end. I wouldn't actualy mind that; it's fun to fight a skeleton crew aboard the Pearl at the end of the main quest. Then we can use Short Jack's Gold main quest rewrite as Jack Sparrow's quest. If Jack Sparrow's quest takes place during the <i>Colonial Powers</i> era, then Nathaniel's quest could be in the <i>Golden Age</i>.

I like this idea <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

About the weapons, I think I'm going to choose this one as new Bartolomeu' sword ?

BTW : You couldn't use it at the beginning of the main quest. It will be given by the governor of conceição as one of the rewards for the Nathaniel Hawk's arrest.

About Nathaniel Hawk, I wouldn't like to use the POTC model. But instead, use the Blaze_NB model or another one....

Cool. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
Using a different blaze model would be nice. That way these get used as well. I don't like having unused models; good stuff should be USED. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
BTW: We'll be needing to get an Alpha 8 version done that supports those different main quests so that you and others can have a look at how it works. Hopefully we'll get that done some time soon.
