Age of Sail and Piracy '101' Project

Captain_Python

Rogue Scholar
Hi all, Captain_Python here, or better known as Brit.Privateer,

I have been doing a lot over at the Pirates of the Burning Sea game. As a historian, I decided to found a project dedicated to history. Go take a look:
<a href="http://www.asp101project.com/" target="_blank">http://www.asp101project.com/</a>
It's called the <b><u>Age of Sail and Piracy '101'</u></b> Project. Basically me and others who have volunteered to help are going to write articles pertaining to the historical period of loosely 1625-1825, concentrating on the game period of 1700-1730. The articles will be on request from the people in the community, and while the above website will track article and project development, but will be hosted on Coldfront's website. It's a big project. It's a big step up from "Captain Python's Tactics". Take a look, and if anyone interested...be happy to have you.

Just an update, there is now a open public email for the site:
asp-historian@asp101project.com
email all your questions, requests, and what not to that. Hope to hear from you all soon.

Update,
Cpt. DarkFrost has updated the look of the ASP 101 site. Go take a look, it is very well done, and please thank DarkFrost for puttings his efforts into it, www.asp101project.com .
As for articles, we are all getting closer to finished articles. A couple of us are stepping into the writing process. For many of us, real life events have held us back from doing work, but we are begining to work through them. As we approach summer, I think that many of us will find more time than we do now. The months of September to May seem to be the more busy than June, July, and August (for many in school and college it means summer break and its the vacation season for others).
We continue on with our efforts here, and hope to bring you content soon,
Brit.Privateer.

Hi all,
Finally, after all this time, the ASP 101 project has released it's first article!:
<b><u>Weaponry of the Age of Sail: The Pike, the Axe, and Tools as Weapons</u></b>

Here is a quick summary:

In the Age of Sail when one ship’s crew boarded another ship in combat, many weapons come to mind. But not many people instantly think of the pike, the axe, and other tools as weapons. The boarding pike was primarily a defensive weapon that had either a spike or leaf shaped head. The boarding axe was more of a tool on a ship than a weapon, but filled both roles. Knives were more for work but were occasionally a last line weapon, as were handspikes, rammers for the ship’s guns, cutlery of all sorts, marlinspikes, belaying pins, and the numerous tools whalers used in their professions. All these tools and weapons were used by crews in combat, and many lived and died in their use.

This article is part of a series I am writing on weaponry, the next being about swords. I hope you all enjoy this article and future ones!

I fer one would love to read such a fine article but it doesn't show mate?!

I will try later on again could be me own computer that be actin' up there...

I think I already know what the problem is. Do you have a Acrobat Reader on your computer? I did, but it was only 4.0. So I had to update it (for free) to 7.0 to read my article online.

I brings more interesting content for all to read with an interview with Cindy Vallar, a historian in Maritime Piracy, and now Editor of the Age of Sail and Piracy ‘101’ project. This interview gives Cindy Vallar’s professional look upon numerous topics, including Pirates of the Burning Sea and the Age of Sail and Piracy ‘101’ project itself. Hope you enjoy:
