Activating abilities and skills

Oldtimer

Master Mariner
Hi all,

more noob questions.

- does a player have to activate all abilities? Having melee defence and gunman skills do I have to activate them or are they always on?

- if they need activating, do I have to do it for each fight?

Developing officers, how can I give them abilities and skills I want(command sequence?)? Or does the AI do it by itself?

Oh, and how can I go below deck to my cabin and address my officers to make them follow me from ship to land?

Regards, Oldtimer

Many abilities such as defense and gunman, etc, are always active once you have gained (chosen) them. There are some sailing abilities that need to be activated at sea (during battle) although from memory this may be only with Build 12. It's been ages since I played the stock POTC so I can't quite remember what works and what doesn't.

You can allocate skill increases and abilities for your fellow officers in the same way that you would for your own character, i.e. via the character interface, scrolling along to the officer you're after.

You should be able to access the passenger interface and select your shore party, whilst on board your ship, by using the F2 button. If you have Build 12 then you will be able to enter the cabin and talk to your officers whilst at sea (Enter button will give you the option).

Hope that helps there, matey.

Hi all,

tried to edit Rys Bloom abilities in stock game, no success. Is it because he has no starting points to use or is it because it`s stock game?

BTW, in stock game I cannot go below deck and address my officer on deck, is it WAD?

The abilities where he has 0 points for can't be changed in the stock game. In Build 12 you can toggle that restirction off. You should be able to change the abilities that don't have 0 to begin with though once he has some points to spare by levelling up.

I don't know what "WAD" is, but in the stock game, you indeed can't go below deck. To set your officer's landing party, go to the passengers interface screen and add a maximum of three officers to the four officer slots there. These officers will follow you on land then.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> Oldtimer, if you are running Stock POTC game, you can edit those "quest" officers like Rys Bloom and Artois Voisey to except skill points in all atributes. There are a few print offs in GameFaqs I believe, or I have them and can send you the Documents, they are in different levels of cheats or hacks, but the one I liked til I came to the Build Mod was the ability to change your officers to except a 1 instead of 0 in those skills, but you have to start new game. It is easy and really isnt cheating because they should have had the ability to increase those skills originally. You just put a 1 in place with a text editor and your away again. It is really easy and simple

Let me know

Hi Long John Silver,

thanks for your suggestions. I think I will stick to original character properties though. After all it`s quite possible for a person to be talented in some fields and totally worthless in others.
