A few questions

Hope someone here can help us out with a few questions our research has so far been unable to clarify one hundred percent.

We're at the stage of animating our sailing rigs and could use some input.

Bearing in mind SoS is set mid 18thC:

On a sqaue rig, the course is hauled down from the yard when being set, it seems unclear how sails over the course were set in the period. Were the top, gallant and royal sails unfurled by hauling down the sail from their yards or was the yard raised to do so?.

Our research indicates that the foot of each sail was secured to the yard of the sail below it, if yards are raised to unfurl sails how does this work?.

If both methods were in use, which in your opinion would be the most common?

How were the jibs and staysails furled and unfurled? We can't seem to find anything on how this was done historically, lots of reference to modern jibs and stays but thats not much good to us.

Hope somone here can help us out.

I hope somebody will reply here. If not, I'll suggest making an "Historical Research" forum that hopefully our historical experts will be more inclined to visit.
