Sid Meier's Pirates! - The Boardgame

    too bad they didn't show the gameboard. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

New Stuff for Pirates (Bonus Content and Map)!

good the the exclusive edition was the same price as the regular version, or I'd be royally cheesed off!

New Stuff for Pirates (Bonus Content and Map)!

Yeah, that's a bit of a bummer. I feel like the Bonus stuff was pretty... minimal at best, insulting at worst. I'm still happy with the game, but I'm very much longing for something SO much deeper. Oh well... maybe this one will sell well enough to warrant another, though I've not seen any...

that I am Skull! That I am! So, keep with wind in yer sails and the grog good and strong, and I'll try not to be a stranger. Arrrr!

    Crew recruiting

I still pop in from time to time Skull. Good to see you as well. Much of my time has been taken up with running a Dungeons and Dragons Pirate themed game for my `role-playing` group. We've been having a rollicking good time! I'd forgotten how much fun playing pen and paper RPGs could be...

    Crew recruiting

I always fitted my Royal Sloop with triple hammocks and maxed out the crew. Makes for a pretty well decked out warship IMHO. Lot depends on what difficulty level you play too. On Swashbuckler level, I lost crew faster than I could recruit, but on the other levels I never had much of a problem...

    Original Priates, For FREE!

I assume by "good" pirates, he was referring to one like your avatar. The romantic notion of pirates that we all know and love. Not the lawless rogues that I'm sure we're all aware were more typical. Not that there is anything wrong with lawless rogues mind you, just less likely to be...

    Original Priates, For FREE!

Well skull, I used to live in germany when I was first in college and then after I joined the US Army. And I was an Army brat growing up, so we lived in many places. It's kinda in my blood I guess. But in the last few years, I've gotten the itch to travel a bunch so I've been on more...

    Original Priates, For FREE!

Hengist, my only point was that the price was the same for both editions over here in the US. Frankly, I had no idea that anybody else was paying more for the LE. Don't think it has anything to do with not looking past my own borders. Actually, I do a pretty good job of that. I leave in 2...

why this game sucks as is, and needs mods like I need oxygen

yeah, looks like ebay can provide copies of 7th Sea. I wonder if it's worth getting the Swashbuckling Adventures that's supposed to be compatible with both systems or if one should just stick with the original. I hear good things about the Savage Worlds 50 Fathoms set too. Talk about a...

why this game sucks as is, and needs mods like I need oxygen

Well Zaph, you are a better man than I. Swashbuckler's fencing makes me cringe. Darius, how about the Swashbuckling Adventures stuff that kinda links d20 to 7th Sea? Green Ronin also put out a d20 historical spanish main game - that looks plenty piratey. I heard grea things about 7th Sea...

    Original Priates, For FREE!

Actually, on this side of the pond, the limited edition and the standard edition were the exact same price. The limited edition was only available during preorder and is now not on the shelves at all save for a stocking anomoly or something.

why this game sucks as is, and needs mods like I need oxygen

Hey Zaph, try Swashbuckler level! EWWWWW! Darius - I love your RPG style to Pirates. Playing any Pirate related table top RPGs? I just started a Freeport d20 campaign for Dungeons and Dragons. great fun!

why this game sucks as is, and needs mods like I need oxygen

nope, yer right. It IS pretty much the same game we all played ages ago. It's funny, for us old timers, the game is awesome but sometimes may not be deep enough for a total pirate game fix. I wonder if I had never played the original, would I still enjoy the new one as much?

why this game sucks as is, and needs mods like I need oxygen

Sorry you didn't like it v4 - they did add dancing, as well as loot, and the land battles are MUCH improved over the original versions. But, while I enjoyed the game (and still enjoy it) quite a bit, I'd sure like to see a complete redo of the game, with the same flavor. And yes, I agree, that...

The Best Pirate Game Of All

I love the dancing - not so keen on the sneaking.

The Best Pirate Game Of All

POTC is pretty rough unless it's modded to the hilt. The interface is about an `UN-intuitive` as you can get. But for the content fans out there, it's interesting. Sid's Pirates! is easy to play, easy to learn and a huge time consumer. It's a classic in terms of game design and fun factor...

    Original Priates, For FREE!

Actually Slick, intellectual property rights are the same whether said property is out of print or not. So just becuase Firaxis is not pulling a profit from the original, does not mean it's free for the taking. But, it's still a great game and worth the time getting an old copy (like the...

why this game sucks as is, and needs mods like I need oxygen

Yeah, sorry you didn't like it Slick. I think (as do many others) it's a great remake of a classic original. It has some issues that would be great to change, but it's a blast IMHO. But then again, I didn't care for KOTOR at all. And I'm a HUGE Star Wars Geek!
