3D printed HMS Surprise and Bellona models

Yeah, the broken geometry wasn't a big deal - the main problem was that separating it into millions of objects slowed down Wings3D so much!

3D printed HMS Surprise and Bellona models

Hi all, I'm using the 3D files of HMS Surprise taken from the New Horizons assets, modelled by the now sadly inactive @pgargon, as well as the WIP HoO HMS Bellona very kindly lent to me by @Armada, as a basis for an experimental build log over at the NRG Model Ship World forum. I'm posting it...

Discussion Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - Single-Player Adventure Game

By the way, Patrice Desilets, the man who came up with the original idea for Assassin's Creed and directed the first two but left for Brohood, Rev and 3, has returned to Ubisoft, so hopefully they'll suddenly remember how to write interesting characters and a plot that isn't dire beyond belief.

I don't want to come across as all 'I already knew that' but it was my intention to do exactly that - apologies if I didn't make that clear. I figured we could have a cover slide of the logo, etc. and then point out various things (people are likely to listen to us minimised, so we'd need to...

    Developer Podcasts

I'm happy to try 'hosting' the first one if I can find a way to record my voice with reasonable quality and if some guineapigs don't think my voice is too annoying/unpleasant to listen to. If it is, the idea might have to go on the back burner somewhat if we can't find anyone else. I'd need...

    Developer Podcasts

Well, we're not the target audience of the developer podcast - it's by developers, not for them. I think it's probably a good way to tell people our plans and ambitions for the game, showcase promotional material, and prove that there are *real* people behind it who are dedicated. It should get...

All true. I just wondered if starting to put this kind of thing together would keep the rest of us occupied and help bring in some more talent and attention while we're waiting for the core framework to be put in place by the programming team.

Am I correct in thinking that the engine has been confirmed as Unreal 3? If so, would this be a good time to start thinking about putting together the first devpodcast?

Discussion Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - Single-Player Adventure Game

I think they will to some extent. In an interview with the people who made the ACII cinematic (Digic Studios) (see: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?73117-Interview-Digic-Studios-on-the-Assassin-s-Creed-Cinematic) they said: 'Most of the characters were built from scratch. For...

Discussion Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - Single-Player Adventure Game

To be fair that's a cinematic trailer, which are made using high-poly assets by another company to which the task is subcontracted (at least, that's how they've done the other cinematic trailers). That's not afaik ingame footage with DX11 so don't get your hopes up. My point being, with regards...

    Developer Podcasts

This is definitely true. I was envisioning at most 15 minutes. Certainly in the earliest ones it's likely we won't have enough content to fill more than that. Much later in development when there's a significant interest in the project and we've got lots of material, we could look at going...

    Developer Podcasts

Well, I'm in the UK and used to be able to Skype with my GF in SoCal with no problem, but I have quite flexible sleeping hours. It's certainly an issue we'll have to deal with. We don't need to record the whole thing in one go though.

Ok, that sounds sensible. To Hammie: the format of the podcast isn't anything I'm set on. If we find one or two people who can just comfortably chat to the listener or each other in a knowledgable and informative way about the game then they can do the whole thing, and we could do community...

    Developer Podcasts

That's great! To my mind, two questions remain - who would be best suited to answering those questions and would they be willing to do it, and would it be best to wait until the development kit/game engine has been finalized? As for the first, Thagarr might be ideal as he seems somehow to have...

    Developer Podcasts

Hello all, I think we should do a developer podcast. It doesn't have to be regular or very long, but it shows that we're real people and that we're active and committed to the project. That should help us recruit more talent to our community! The way I figured we could do it is with a 'host,'...

Need Help Probably a stupid question

I had a similar problem with fires in that C never seemed to work. I might have used it wrong, but I had to spam C to get fires under control, and that meant I eventually wanted to smash my speakers.

    Helper introducing

Hello brother! I'm sure you'll be very welcome. The brick script is something we've been thinking about where you plug in the dimensions of the building, where the windows and doors are, and what bonds/window bonds/etc. you want, and it will output a diffuse and normal map for you compiled from...

Can this game work on a Macbook pro?

I don't know, I've only got a little tiny bit of experience on PotC and none on the other games. I think the mods can be downloaded from here: http://www.moddb.com/games/age-of-pirates-ii-city-of-abandoned-ships

Can this game work on a Macbook pro?

I'm running PotC Build Mod 14 on a MacBook Pro with Boot Camp, and it works fine, although the unibody gets very hot at times. I don't know if that's relevant or helpful. CrossOver also claims it can do PotC too, but I don't know how you'd install mods on top of that.

    Application for Haereticus

Oh, thanks - that looks like a really good resource. It'd be good at some point to compile a reading list of books and web resources that covers diverse topics like contemporary architecture, geopolitics, mercantilism, seamanship, that kind of thing. At the moment I'm working on a few star forts...
