Mod Release Build 14 GAMMA [Last Update: 31st December 2021]

I have never ever seen anything like this before. The randomness has only affected the hull and crew, but never the cannons.
Someone made a fix for the cannon calibre upgrade code at some point, because that didn't work for quite a while.
Big question is whether that is a feature we would want at all though.
Sounds like it may be working a bit too well now.

Too well? The one carrying the 32 pounders is rated for 42 pounders! And why only for this one ship? I have not seen this abomination on any other ship.

I just want to say that I have maybe 2 dozen ships berthed in the different colonies with at least one having all 4 berths full, and they range from a Hoy to a 3rd rate Battleship. I don't see the reasoning behind putting huge cannons on small ships. If you want larger cannons along with their larger crews, then get a bigger boat.

There is definitely something wrong if a Postillionen has 32lb long guns. The "Reinforced Hull" upgrade allows one higher calibre, so it could have 18lb long guns. Carronades can be two calibres higher, so 32lb carronades should be possible. But not 32lb long guns!

I have version 4.0 installed. If I have understand well, I must put only the installer, and the fixes, not the part 2 (contents), right, mateys?

I'm not sure whether the installer will insist on having Part 2 if you tell it to install only the updates. Personally I always go for a clean install anyway, and have an installation of the stock, unmodded game on my hard drive, whose only purpose is to be copied to another folder as the base for a Build Mod install. That way, if anything got corrupted in the previous Build Mod install, it won't be carried over onto the new one.

But if you already have Part 2 because you needed it for the Beta 4.0 install, you don't need to download it again. Just put it into the same folder as the Beta 4.1 installer.

Correct; the contents are identical between 4.0 and 4.1 .

If you deselect it in the installer, it'll skip it without asking.
It'll then check if it was installed before and give an error if it wasn't.

Cheers mates,

does anyone know if, or which version of this game contains the trade winds mod Tinyun has done some time ago?

Thanks,
Skyworm

It was never included in any official releases. It is probably still available on the forum as an attachment that could be installed using WinMerge.

Has the "cursed coin" childish gimmick been removed?
Are ships still firing into the cliff when attacking ports?
Do storms suddenly appear without warning?
Are storms still hurricanes?
Do cohort ships still do stupid maneuvers into each other, cliffs, lower sails in front of forts, etc.?

Huzzah! for the updated game play. While not many listed fixes seem to apply to New Horizons I need to do a clean install and see how it goes. The previous beta was a bitch to play my blood pressure was elevated too much by the totally absurd BS that was in the program logic. What point to the Davy Jones scenario, the french frigate Speightown scenario if I can't keep it, rescue of Elizabeth Shaw, having items of value for females if they cannot be given and some appreciation garnered? Too many of the episodes and side-quests are pointless. A better treasure map is needed to make that worthwhile. What about the Port Royal thugs who cannot be killed in order to deliver the sealed chest item? That is stupid and childish... not worth featuring in an adult adventure/role play game of this stature. Why are my bodyguard cohorts in boarding always getting trapped in the lavatory by an opponent when the space is too small for swordplay and why are all three in the lav when the one opponent steps into the doorway and starts whacking away?(

Too many scenarios defy reason and logic. People with better knowledge of the period and the tactics, and a good understanding of logic, should be developing the scenarios... not childish pretenders... If I want super-Mario the Pirate I will buy and play the childish Atari game.

Again, excellent work and the world is applauding your skill and effort to provide this genre of gaming that has been missing for far too long.

Has the "cursed coin" childish gimmick been removed?
Depends on the storyline. Why?

Are ships still firing into the cliff when attacking ports?
Stock game AI is not particularly clever.

Do storms suddenly appear without warning?
Depends on the month. Rain season gives more chance for storms.

Are storms still hurricanes?
Not all of them, no.

Do cohort ships still do stupid maneuvers into each other, cliffs, lower sails in front of forts, etc.?
See above.

You are free to not play what you don't like.

Stock game story. :shrug

I cannot seem to make any sense of the contrast in your post.

Cheers Pieter!

How sad, that was one of the best mods I have seen since I am in this forum, which is a time. Though I understand, it only makes a huge difference for direct sailers like me.
Unfortunately, I don't find it anymore.

Thanks,
Skyworm

What point to the Davy Jones scenario,
The chance to meet a character from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films? The chance to try your luck at taking on the Flying Dutchman? But if the scenario does not interest you, you are free to ignore it - it's a sidequest, not critical to any of the storylines. (Unless you're referring to Davy Jones' part in the "Hoist The Colours" storyline, which is heavily based on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films and there'd be a lot more complaints if Davy Jones didn't show up. xD)
the french frigate Speightown scenario if I can't keep it,
That's part of the "Tales of a Sea Hawk" storyline, and at this point you're working for Governor Silehard. His agent has set up the capture of the ship. Your job is simply to deliver it.
rescue of Elizabeth Shaw
That is the same sidequest which ends with you facing Davy Jones. If you don't want to play it, refuse the job when you first talk to Governor Shaw.
having items of value for females if they cannot be given and some appreciation garnered?
One of the storylines does indeed use some of those items, depending on how you play it.
What about the Port Royal thugs who cannot be killed in order to deliver the sealed chest item?
Part of the "Tales of a Sea Hawk" storyline, this introduces you to the cursed pirates who are immortal. You will subsequently learn more about the curse in general and the chest in particular.
Why are my bodyguard cohorts in boarding always getting trapped in the lavatory by an opponent when the space is too small for swordplay and why are all three in the lav when the one opponent steps into the doorway and starts whacking away?(
The only place I can think of where this happens is one of the smaller cabins at the end of a boarding battle. Space is small, the reason being, it's a small cabin. You're duelling the enemy captain and one of your associates is duelling one of his associates. But it's a bit unfair to say that your officers are always getting trapped in there because in order to get to that cabin, you'll have been through at least two decks where there was rather more sword-swinging room.

Trade winds mod? I missed that. :facepalm I have noticed that the winds seem to be better now than they were and it is possible to make headway by tacking, even in square sail ships. Tacking used to be a waste of time as the wind would change to block your tack.

At the time, too much was changing at the same time and the game became quite unstable.
We then kicked out everything we weren't sure of and nobody bothered to add anything back in.

The trade winds may or may not have been a good idea; I think @LarryHookins has some thoughts to share on that.
Anyway, maybe this thread is of any help to you: Wind direction in the Caribbean

Cheers Pieter,

this is precisely what I was referring to.
I liked it very much, and didn't find the game unstable with it. I'd really like to see a revival.

I am actually playing Sid Meyer's Pirates again, where wind is much more predictable. Sailing is a lot more fun.
I really hope someone includes it again.

If you WinMerge the two files attached to that forum post, you might be able to re-include it yourself.
It shouldn't be too difficult.

Please do not insult the people who have put in countless hours to develop this mod. You are free to voice your concerns, but you must do so politely as per the forum rules.
Consider this an official warning.
