Mod Release Build 14 Beta 3 Progress

Cheers,

well, after playing a while, I have some more questions.

Playing Spanish Main in Iron Man mode.

1) Island distances
They seem short. I sailed from Kralendijk at Bonaire to Sunny Hacen at Concepcion in about 10 hours. Speed was about 4-4 knots, which is not really fast.
I think even such short distance travels felt longer in 3.0.

2) Distance in that ships and islands appear
This seems to be much shorter, too.
Strange thing is ... I had Bonaire still well in sight when the "Land Ho" message for Conception appeared. I am very sure there has been an open sea part between in 3.0 where none of the islands has been visible. Very very sure.
Also, at land ho I had Conseption well in sight. I remember in 3.0 that has been not the case, at land ho message the island was very barely in sight if in sight at all.
Same goes for a fleet of ships that I encountered with the same land ho message: Well in sight and easily recognizable, not in firing range yet but much much closer than it has been in 3.0.

Question now is ... is this intentional, or not?
I am not yet sure which I'd liked more ... at the moment it's more unusual than disturbing.
Next question:
In case I don't like it, is there a way to change the distances?

Thanks,
Skyworm

It sounds like you do not have the realistic directsail enabled. Have you looked in your internalsettings.h yet? Do you have the map with large islands or small islands?

Shouldn't this be included in realistic mode of sail and iron man mode?
In internalsettings.h it looks like it is ...

And ye, I have the enlarged world mal, and I hace counter rudder and no world map ... it feels all right,e xcept the distances.

Cheers Hylie,

well, the next voyage worked better.
This time all was as I am uses to it in 3.0.
In can only suspect that on the first voyage, I switched from realistic to iron man after I set sails. Perhaps that caused the trouble.
I toggled the levels at the island a bit.

However, now it seems all right. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the Open Sea Mod should take effect properly in Iron Man Mode now.
In the Beta 2.5 version there were some issues with that if I recall, but that should have been sorted months ago.

Heya Pieter! :dance

And yes, I agree. I don't toggle realism level now and just leave it at iron man, and everything is fine and looks usual.
Nice build, by the way. There's a lot of features I appreciate. :onya

What for a game is this - "Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End" and why haven't I heard of it ?

Cheers,

and another question ... hell, any time I turn back ti this game I feel like a newby 'cause you change so much :dance

Did anything happen to the treasure map quests?
I ask beacause ... not one has been offered to me. Usually, I got lots of offers before I could afford to buy them ... just bad luck or did they disappear for some reason?
Playing in iron man ... Assassin storyline.

Thanks

The treasure quests are still there. They seem to come in groups. There will be a period with none offered and then there will be more than you want offered.

But has anyone tried this that is called "PotC 3" ? Is it a worthy continuation of the good game that we know ? Is it the improvements of scenery, sailing, ships etc that should be or is just stuffed with hellish creatures who walk on their heads ?

Cheers,

and no sorry, I didn't play any PotC games besides this one here!

But after playing a bit more, I observed some issues ...

1) At Curacao, Spanish Main era, two of my party members did not join me. They just fell behind and did not engage into combat either.
Same thing happened in some areas of Carthagena.

2) Oranjestad Port at Aruba does not has a Kay or something like that. From sea, it just looks like a beach. Since it is already "stolen" from the pirate port at Nevis, why not "steal" the Kay as well? It would certainly look better. I think something called port should be visible from sea.

Except this, it's really really great. I am always amazed how many fun I have playing this old game again and again and again. :ship

I played PotC: At World's End a long time ago on PS3; it's a movie tie-in that has no resemblance whatsoever to Akella's games.
It covers the events of both Dead Man's Chest and At World's End, mostly from Jack's perspective, and from what I remember, it focuses on platforming and hack-and-slash swordfighting.
No naval battles to speak of, here, but there was fighting on different ships' decks from movie sequences.
The graphics are much better than Akella's games, but would still look a bit dated by today's standards.

Ultimately, Assassin's Creed IV has more similar gameplay to the Build Mod than At World's End does. No kidding.

The game was just bad as far as I can remember. I can not recommend to buy this game - Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End:nogood

Skyworm:

1) That feature has been around for years and is nothing new. I do not know what causes it, but after a while as one of your shore party officers will sometimes just take off on their own.
The cure for this is to replace that officer with another for a while. When you bring that officer back he will be loyal again.

2) Yes, it would be nice to have something at Aruba, but who would do it?

Armada knows how to do it, but he is busy with other projects. Methinks one needs to know how to use Maya5 to do those things.
