Solved Build 14 Beta 3: What's the Verdict?

So how close are we to making the public release?

I think if you were to release this to the public it'd be aimed at people like me: those who are interested in the game, maybe played vanilla and enjoyed it but are not apart of this community. Whilst I think this is amazing and improves vanilla by an impressive degree, I don't think it offers a seamless enough experience to want to release it as of yet. The awkwardness of finding ports and the like, the bugs, and not detailed enough documentation/FAQ just makes it incomplete to me.

A wiki on the game mechanics and all that would be nice.
I agree better documentation would be VERY nice. Somebody would have to write it though. I asked and asked and asked again for people to help out, but there weren't any takers, really.
While I personally do have the knowledge and ability to do it myself, I just don't have the time to get everything done that I'd like to have done.

Time to Finish This Up

Well, I do believe we have gotten the modpack to a pretty darn good state over the past few months.
It may not be perfect as it is, but that's why we are remaining in Beta state for a while longer.
However, it is about time that I stop releasing new updated every few dates so that we can do some real, proper testing.
Which ideally will allow MYSELF to play as well, which has been positively ages ago.

Therefore I think we should release Beta 3 to the public very soon and I have decided that next weekend is as good a time as any.
If anything crops up before that time, I will try to address it of course. Further testing would be much appreciated for sure!
And if we can get some more fixed/finished content before next weekend, I'll be all for it, of course!
But things are slowing down here fore sure, which is a good thing this time because we're actually getting there for a change. :cheeky

Agreed! :cheers

I do think that the player advances too quickly in relation to his officers. I cut it down from 35 to 25 and am still advancing well up the levels.

We can get more done if more people decide to join in. Everyone is welcome to do so for certain! :cheeky

What if you set it down to something stupidly low? Like 1? :wp

Wouldn't that stop all progression completely when the goal is to find a better balance? anyway, I changed it from 25 to 20. The officers still progress well but I am a little slower. Maybe still faster though. more testing needed.

Well, at least then you'd know what the SLOWEST would be. If that still doesn't slow it down enough, then we know we're on the wrong track.

BTW: Whatever is happening to the forum? I had the colour scheme change twice on me in the last minute or so! :rofl

I would love to help but i do't know how to mod or code. All i can do is HTML, CSS and a little Javascript. is there tutorials for beginners how to code and mod. I thought i saw some but im not sure i was half asleep.

Well, we've got this: http://www.piratesahoy.net/forums/tutorials.86/
And also the "New Horizons Tutorials & History.pdf" file in your game's Documentation folder.

Easiest way to learn it though is to just think of something not too complicated you'd like to.
Then we can point you in the right direction. You already have some knowledge of coding.
That gives you a head-start! :cheers

Code:
if(9===9)
{console.log("yes")}
else(9!==9)
{console.log("you are wrong")}
well im comfortable at doing the if/else statements but i would like to give modding a try

well i would like to do both but i dont see any modding tutorials also i wish to help with some coding maybe for POTC and New Horizons.

The problem with most of the documentation and tutorials you guys link is that the links within those documents (which usually are pretty important) are all 404s. ;)

the only 404's ive seen here were from pictures that someone put on (dont quote me on this)but either lost or deleted the file so they don't have it anymore which results into 404

Well, it's all very old, unfortunately. A lot of the information is still relevant though.
But best is to just decide on something you'd like to do, start a thread on it and I'll try to figure out how you might accomplish it.

Unfortunately writing tutorials and documentation takes a lot of time and effort, which I can't really spare too much of. :(

I understand it is hard to make tutorials and stuff.

I would do if /else statements since i know the basics of them.
also did any of you go to a school to learn this stuff or did you learn from the internet?
