Mod Release Build 14 Beta 3 Progress

Why are you guys complaining about instability? During the summer in the time I had no job or school, there were times were I'd play it for 10 or so hours on my laptop and it would still be perfectly stable! But, then again, I do have a gaming rig, maybe that's why, lol.
 
well.. not everybody has i5 processors and gtx graphics, you know :p And I can confirm that game-stability can depend very hard on the hardware, seems like the storm engine doesn't like some hardware too much (like the RAGE engine from R* Games, which just doesn't like some computers)
 
I've got an i7 processor and the best hardware I could cram into my laptop a few years back and the game still crashes on occasion.
It isn't perfect. Thankfully it IS playable.
 
Sheesh. It's a well known fact that POTC has memory leaks. It says so right at the bottom of the system.log every time you quit. Memory leaks DO cause ctds. Hell, I've been talking about how much better POTC is now than it was just 6 months ago.
And yes hardware does have a lot to do with game stability, but I've got 10 times the hardware you do and still get the occasional ctd. The difference is that now it's maybe 1 a week instead of 12 a day.


A Monk came up to me and started asking questions. He didn't like my answers and took me Musketoon and Sabre of Nicholas Sharpe!! I chased him down and killed him but only got a Maltese sword. :rumgone

Some time later on another island a Monk again talked to me and said he would give my weapons back to me, but he didn't. :facepalm I killed him but just got a Maltese sword again. :rumgone In over 3 1/2 years of play this has not happened to me before. Will I ever get my weapons back? :unsure
 
The weapons-stealing? I remember that! According to the code, it IS possible to get them back by making the correct apology.
Does the monk still have your weapons? Can you see them being equipped on him, for example?
 
I know about the money stealing and hate it when that happens. :facepalm This is new, and no I did not see any weapons on the Monk.
 
The monk weapon-stealing isn't new; that's positively ANCIENT. Been there since well before I joined the forum.
 
Hylie, you modify your files so often, that's why you get CTD's, lol.
 
I've gotten CTDs with the game, and my personal computer has 16 GB of RAM, an eight-core 4.0GHz processor, and one of the latest nVidia cards with 1536 cores and 2GB of onboard memory! I don't think it really matters what sort of system you're playing on; a memory leak is a memory leak.

Usually, my CTDs happen when I've been playing for quite a while (observed behavior reported by Hylie Pistoff above), or from a feature that seems to be known to be broken (like some of the dialogue options when speaking with a ship captain who has surrendered).
 
A specific dialogue option has proven problematic for me in the past when I don't have the "do you want to be my officer?" option. When I get back to my computer, I'll try to recreate it for you and document the steps to reproduce!

Yes, definitely. I'm a bit annoyed that I haven't been keeping track of the bugs and issues I've encountered in the past... I'll be making an effort to report as many as I can to help out with the mod!
 
Just tried to load game with last update and i have abnormal crash from storm engine thing all the time Fuff!! No idea what's going on? I'll check if the updates are indeed installing into the folder. Past ones worked well.
 
The new updates show the date in the game's main menu. So what does it say there?

Also, on any crashes, check the compile.log, system.log and possible error.log in your main game folder.
 
Hmm, I would like to know why my setup is so stable then, because according to this forum, no one can go a day without a crash then it seems...
 
Don't complain about being lucky, mate! Myself, I can't say how frequently they happen because I don't play enough for that.
But happen they do.
 
The Maps do not seem to fit the new background - it looks rather strange. :unsure

AGH! Good catch. They DID use to, right? I'll have to make the new background into a different file then.
