Last weekend, after half a year of being behind, a new "official" modpack update was released for you guys to try:
Mod Release - Build 14 Beta 4.1 WIP [Last Update: 7 January 2017] | PiratesAhoy!

This version is the simplest and most stable version that I could "quickly" make (with great help from @Grey Roger!).
However, a vast amount of content has been made over the past months (and years) that is not actually included.

Because I myself am still very busy with real life, I cannot dedicate a lot of spare time to working all of this back into the game.
However, there IS a lot to be done:
1. Confirming that the latest Installer EXE is indeed OK (including cleaning up the Bug Tracker and Testing List)
2. Making various experimental mods compatible with this latest EXE
3. Splitting up these mods so they can be added one by one
4. Testing if these mods work as intended
5. If necessary, further development to get these mods ready for inclusion
6. Adding these mods into the main official modpack

This cannot all be done, except with the help of as many people as possible.
So whatever you do, please at least consider this request and VOTE in this poll.
It is absolutely crucial to determine how much we could get done this year! :cheers

@Grey Roger: Just so you know, I'd consider your work on the Needs Testing - Post 28th July fixes | PiratesAhoy! to be "modpack management". ;)

I sincerely hope you'll be willing to continue with that, because I can guarantee I will not be able to do as much as I once did.
What I did last week is just a quick game of "catching up with PotC", before real life catches up with me again....

I've picked both "Main focus is on personal mod development (e.g. own storyline)" and "Willing to help with modding". Indeed my main focus is on finishing off "Ardent" (and an update of that is imminent...) but I do a bit of other modding as well, especially if a bug is reported and I have some idea of how to fix it.

I voted, that I'd be ready to help with modding, but I haven't as much time for work on Storm Engine as I would like. Thus, I can't tell how much I'd do for PotC Build.

That's really great to hear!

Sounds like you've got a bit of the same "time issue" that I've had myself the past half a year (and probably will continue to have).
That's not a problem though. Every help is welcome, and the more people are willing to support, the easier it all becomes. :woot

I chose own storyline + modding as WoodesRogers 2 is a very ambitious project.
Have been working on it for 16 months now and much remain.

Sometimes, for a change I try to do a mod or fix a bug though.

I'm not really into overhauling others complete/incomplete developments but I will probably track through the bug fix lists in the August-September WIP seeing if I can pick out any fixes not now included (where the bug exists in the latest version) that I can understand and thereby feed back into the mainstream.

In addition I'll likely just continue picking through the bug tracker list until I pretty much disappear in mid April (until October I would guess). So a bit of 1, 3 and 4 I suppose.

Thanks, @pedrwyth! :woot

I think one thing that might be useful for different people to help out with is to simply take some files
from the http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/temporary-archive-of-mod-excluded-content.28193/ and WinMerge them with the most recent modpack version.
That doesn't need to be a lot of complicated work, but there's a fair bit of "stuff" there so if everyone does a bit, that helps to bring it down to more bite-size chunks.
No rush with any of that though; first need to determine if the 7 January 2016 version is actually OK! :cheeky

Thanks for everyone who has participated in the poll; Let's see then if this gives us enough support to get some stuff sorted out! :woot

@Jack Rackham, @konradk, @Grey Roger and @Johanno: If I understand correctly, you would be willing to help out with modding.
By this, I mean "modding that isn't personal changes/storylines", but more general development. This is supposed to be:
1. Fixing bugs from the Build Mod Bug Tracker | PiratesAhoy!
2. Updating content from http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/temporary-archive-of-mod-excluded-content.28193/ to be compatible with the latest modpack version and/or doing fixes to this
3. Implementing Planned/Prioritized features from Build Beta and Brainstorming | PiratesAhoy!

Do you have any thoughts on what you would be willing to help with?

For @konradk, would you instead be more interested in trying to get the PotC Build Mod working on @ChezJfrey's Storm 2.8 Code Base?
If not, that is also fine by me. I'm not sure if that particular path of development would be worth the effort, since it will probably not be easy.
Might as well build the mod/game from the ground up.... :unsure

@salonikasurf and @ANSEL: You indicated that you are willing to help with dedicated testing.
By this, I mean "testing specific issues to determine if they have indeed been fixed". This is supposed to be:
1. Issues from the Build Mod Bug Tracker | PiratesAhoy! where someone (probably @Grey Roger, @pedrwyth or me) asks if someone can check if a fix indeed works
2. Any "Experimental Mods" that have been made compatible for the recent version
3. Anything that is listed on Build Testing List | PiratesAhoy!, but not marked as "Included in Build"
4. Possibly items on Build Beta and Brainstorming | PiratesAhoy! if it is specifically asked for those to be tested

Which of those would you be willing to help with? And if you are tagged in a thread asking for testing, will you respond to let us know if you're able to do it?

With these two little groups of people, we may have just enough to make something happen.
Of course more hands make light work, so anyone who hasn't vote yet, VOTE NOW!!!

In the absence of an option for "I'd love to help, but don't have time", I've gone with "Willing to help with modding", but with some major caveats.

Right now, the best I can offer is guidance for anything related to Maya, GM export or 3D modelling in general. If anyone wants to modify or create models for the game, I'm happy to answer questions to help them out when I have the time.
What I can't offer is any new or improved models of my own, as I'm focusing my efforts on creating a portfolio. I can't promise that any future work of mine will make its way into the game, but I'm not ruling it out either.

As for New Horizons itself, I'll continue to play it from time to time, and of course I'll report any issues I run into. ;)

As soon as life allows it again ill be back to first get my previous stuff ready for the new release. Then ill help again.

Bug-fixing, where I feel able to do it.

As for 3, several of the items in there are mine. And they've already been implemented. Make "Cooking With Albatross" Readable and Storing and restoring things are in the 7th July installer, while the ones about "New models for Spain (and Portugal)" and "New fast galleons" have just moved into the "Build Testing List" section.

I'd love to help, but don't have time
This would be my vote, I'm not able to make any promises right now. Currently all my free time goes into my privat projects - and that's not even fun, since my general motivation is pretty low.

@Armada, @Cassadar and @Sulan: As per popular request, I have added the " I'd love to help, but don't have time" option to the poll.
So feel free to change your vote accordingly. :doff

I took the opportunity to vote for that myself, because really my situation is probably fairly similar to yours....

@Pieter Boelen says : Which of those would you be willing to help with? And if you are tagged in a thread asking for testing, will you respond to let us know if you're able to do it?
For me it must be number 1 and 3 I want to do some test on ( maybe no. 4 too)

Hi All,
I can test all 4 of the items Pieter. The only issue is if work gets in the way at the time that the testing has to happen.
I do note that with the experimental works testing is a bit interesting if a number of mods all are implemented at the same time. The best way for me is to test specific issues/changes one at a time, otherwise it is difficult to know what is causing what to happen. I do realize that some of the experimental mods are pretty extensive so that full game testing is required - this would takes some time for me.

I have tested the current 7 jan mod and it is working well on standard storyline (about a third of the way through). I do still have some save game issues - but they could be hardware issues as if I wait a minute or so and not have speedX3 etc on it generally works well. General game balance is good - difficult to make much money trading early in the game as it should be. Land and sea battles seem well balanced as well.

This seems to be a good platform to move on from and I will continue to help when I can.

:cheers

Thanks, @salonikasurf!

I can promise that if I have a say in it, changes will go in one by one.
"All at the same time" is not really a good approach.
So I definitely agree with you there.

Are you saying Saving works properly only after waiting a while once loaded in a location?
There was indeed a problem with that before, but I thought @Levis managed to fix that ages ago! :shock

I'm still trying to make PotC B13 compatible with SE 2.8, but I'm working on my version – I don't have ChezJFrey's version. I won't stop until I succeed, period. For what I see now, it require rewriting land, sea and map interfaces. However, if I'm to change these interfaces, I'd like to make it in a way that setting things like icons and texts would be possible from script. That requires even more work than attempts to only adapt existing code.
