WIP Age of Pirates PA! Edition kk from 2016.06.28

Hello,

I've decided to upload my version of current storm modification. I must warn, however, that I didn't manage to test it precisely.

Installation
  1. Install unmodded AoP2: CoAS. Delete modules folder from the game main folder (where start.exe is located).
  2. Unzip coas_pae_kk_20160628.zip to overwriting existing files.
  3. For running AoP: CT, unzip ct_pae_kk_20160628.zip to the same folder and follow the instructions in Information, point 5th.
  4. Run start.exe.

Information
1. Whaterver output file engine writes (savegames, options files, logs, screenshots, etc.) is stored in Documents\Akella subfolder. The name of this subfolder can be set in start.ini (entry: user_folder_name).
2. Now after killing a person in land location and saving a game without looting, that person will be loaded and killed immediately upon loading a new game to allow for proper looting.
3. There's option to drop item in inventory interface, but don't use it – that's unfinished and even if character drop some item and it will be visible on the ground, picking it up won't be possible. However, to equip/unequip the equipable item, one can simply double click on it.
4. Dialog box would appear on picking the item.
5. added ability to run “Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales” (pre-alpha). To set it up properly:
  • Install AoP: CT and patch it to ver. 1.5. Don't install any mods under any circumstances.
  • Uncompress ct_pae_kk_20160628.zip into AoP: CoAS folder after the main file (coas_pae_kk_20160628.zip).
  • Edit start_aopct.ini file and ensure, that entries: “resource_directory” points to resource folder of AoP: CT installation and “sound path” to sound folder of AoP: CT installation.
  • To start AoP: CT, execute start_aopct.bat.
Please note, that file structure now changed: program scripts are now in aop_coas\Program (for AoP2: CoAS) or aop_ct\Program (for AoP: CT) and ini files in aop_coas\ini (for AoP2: CoAS) or aop_ct\ini (for AoP: CT). Program and resource\ini folders aren't needed anymore. Also, it's possible to run it using original SE 2.5. In theory, it should be possible to run AoP: CT with both these files extracted into a single forlder without installed AoP2: CoAS.
6. Don't use config.exe. It wasn't updated for modified ini file structure and it would broke start.ini.
7. In start.ini, to enable logging, “tracefiles=1” should be in “[script]” section. Every other setting from there to work requires “tracefiles” to be 1. “codefiles” produces *.b files, “runtimelog” writes a log with performace data for executed functions, “texture_log” writes log with loaded textures, “geometry_log” – with loaded model files, “attributes_log” – outputs from DumpAttribute() function and “sounds_log” – with loaded sound files.
8. Entries “screen_x” and “screen_y” set width and height window resolution respectively, but aren't mandatory. If missed, or set to 0, the desktop resolution will be used.

Known issues (the ones I'm aware of and plan to fix)
  1. The sky during nights is starless. The only “working” star in game is the Sun.
  2. Screenshots aren't saved correctly. It seems to be problem with transparency.
  3. Drop Item functionality unimplemented.
  4. In AoP: CT jungles on islands are shifted and float in the air near the land in sea sailing mode.
  5. In AoP: CT the Sun prior to sunset shows Moon's phase and the Moon, for some time after rise, looks like the Sun.

If somebody would like to test it and help in development, it would be great to play on unmodified game, only on scripts supplied with me. On encountering the problem, I'd then accept error logs and saved game prior it's appearance, so I would diagnose the issue faster.

I hope you enjoy it.

Downloads:
1. Main file – for “Age of Pirates II: City of Abandoned Ships”.
2. Addition – for “Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales”.

Best regards.

That's really cool, @konradk! :woot

I have temporarily moved this to the "hidden" area of the forum, because I wanted to be absolutely certain that you intend this to be publicly posted.
If you're indeed OK with that, I'll move it back again straight away. :doff

After double-checking with @konradk, these files are indeed OK for public sharing.

So gentlemen, HAVE FUN WITH THEM! :dance

If you haven't already found this issue, I might have an idea. You changed the .Catalog value in WhrAstronomy.c to remove the RESOURCE\ path in front of hic.dat. Make sure in the Stars.cpp to put the path to that file in front of sCatalog when opening the file. I know it was done for star.dat, but it looks like both of those are needed to display the stars, so that may be what's missing.

Thank you, I'll try it. :)
I'm sorry for late reply.
