The Black Pearl 3.0

Kazeite

Privateer
Storm Modder
So, here's my latest upgrade of our favourite pirate ship:

Pearl01a.jpgPearl01b.jpg

Stern texture has been replaced with different, clearer version.

I've made some new lamps (and I even made some gold, alternate textures for them, for the Wicked Wench :) )

Main cabin's roof has been rounded a little and has a new texture (on the Wicked Wench this roof will be gold as well). Main hull texture has been normalized a little (no more reddish cabin textures)

New window textures and new, more detailed support figures.

Pearl02a.jpgPearl02b.jpg

Yep, I've finally caved in and made custom deck texture. Happy Now? :) And since I was doing custom deck texture anyway, I've decided to paint the masts black.

Also, the steering wheel has received some slight upgrades, to make it more movie-accurate.

Pearl03a.jpgPearl03b.jpg

And here's the new capstan :D

Pearl04a.jpgPearl04b.jpg

You've probably already noticed, but all guns have been shortened and are now black, and with touch-holes. Since I've seen people complaining about it, I've changed the texture coordinates on the cannons, so it's should be compatible with other cannon texture mods.

All masts have now stumps, like all CoAS ships. Also, I've modelled some thicker ropes.

Pearl05a.jpgPearl05b.jpg

Here's the new crows nest. I've made it so you can actually walk up on the path file and reach it, although I'm not sure about the view :D This part of the mast is actually part of the ship, to avoid the situation where you could loose the mast, but still capable of climbing on now non-existing nest via unchanged path file - the "real" mast starts above crows nest.

Also, all three masts has been extended, as per some side views I've found.

Pearl06a.jpgPearl06b.jpg

And here are the new figures flanking the main cabins entrance :)

figurehead1.jpgfigurehead2.jpg

Also, something you've already seen: new figurehead :)

So, here's the ship and textures. I'll alert ZarethPL and ask him to convert the ship :)
EDIT: Downloads moved to PotC FTP in my folder.

Wicked Wench version coming soon.

This, is, a REALLY great christmas present. But hey, I am like a spoiled little kid. Would be nice if we also had a location model for boardings ;).
Really Good Job Kazeite. I really like the added details and custum deck texture you made! I am curious about the new Wicked Wench.

You did an INCREDIBLE job! I thought that the Black Pearl we had was already pretty darn good,
but here you come and improve her even further! The good news just doesn't stop flowing in! :dance

Status update: ZarethPL has managed to convert Pearl, and you can actually download it from my FTP directory, however, along the way, something went terribly, horribly wrong :(

First of all, ConverterTX absolutely refuses to acknowledge alpha channel on the lamps texture. The result is, well, opaque windows and lamps :modding

Could anyone with Photoshop or whatever download textures above and open lamps texture and confirm that alpha channel is, in fact, present? And, after that, could you try to convert it in ConverterTX to .tx format?

In case you forgot how to do it, quoting Pieter:
"Set "Output texture format for with alpha channel images" to something that has
"4bit alpha" or "8bit alpha" in it. I also recommend setting the "Output texture for
without alpha channel" to the same. That way you are SURE the alpha channel is included."

But there's more - somewhere along the converting way certain model coordinates become... I don't know... scrambled, I suppose. So, certain parts of the model (mainly cannons) look like they've been attacked by rabid monkeys with jackhammers - they are all bent and squashed out of shape :facepalm

The semi-good news is, you can climb up to the crows nest. Well I least according to Zareth (and he has pictures to prove it). I wasn't able to climb up, however :shrug

So, if you want, you can download the model and test it yourself. (And yes, I've already noticed that certain rope locators are missing)

Oh dear... this sounds not so good. Will see what I can do tomorrow if I can remember by then. :facepalm

The Alpha channel is there

nuevo-2.jpg

Is this convertion any good ?

nuevo-1.jpg

Almost forgot ! very nice remake ! i think is you who said... "true art is never finished, only abandoned"... damn you'r right ! xD:

So Zareth is the one converting the models ? my San Martin (the one in the sig) is stuck right there in the exporting process... i've sent him (Zareth) a PM but he vanished... must be busy !
I'm also modeling another two other ships maybe they'll be ready for when i learn to export them :urgh

Unfortunately, no :(

The transparency should already be visible in ConverterTX, like so:

transp1.jpg

And I'm pretty sure that even unconverted .tga should have its alpha mask visible - at least .tx textures converted by ConverterTX to .tga do:

transp2.JPG

Your original TGA files don't seem to have alpha maps, Kazeite. Neither do the TGA.TX files in your most recent upload.
http://pyratesahoy.com/potc/Kazeite/BlackPearl3.0.rar
However, "alpha.tga.tx" does seem to have an alpha layer.
It seems to me like the alpha layer information is lost in the saving to TGA from whatever format you work in (PSD?).

Ok; I went to stick the new Black Pearl into my game now.
I observed the following:

- "deckBP.tga.tx" and "alpha.tga.tx" already existed,
but I'm not sure where they were used before or what effect overwriting them will have.
I'm pretty sure they were NOT used by the previous version of the Black Pearl.

- In 3D sailing mode, the exterior camera rotates around a point WAAAY above the ship,
which means I can only see the tops of the masts from the outside. :(

- There's some points where apparently two surfaces with different textures are on the same spot.
This causes weird "clipping" effects. I notice this on the steering wheel and some of the wheels of the cannons.

- I see no major texture map errors. I do think I see what you mean
with some model parts being modified from their intended shape.
Makes me remember the issues I used to have when I modeled for Virtual Sailor.
In that case, I had to "reset X-form" in 3D Studio MAX to restore the model to "normal" behaviour.

- I DID manage to move the 1st person camera up into the rigging (!!!), but there's not too much point in doing so.
On the bow of the ship, there's a sail that obstructs the view and in the crow's nest, the same applies.
This gives the Black Pearl seriously bad visibility forward.

- Does she still have a cabin interior?

deckBP.tga.tx is the custom deck tex Kazeite mentioned earlier ,the alpha is used on the path mesh since we want it completly invisibe
abaut the camera i had similar problem thou i could close it up to the ship (dont know what's couisin it)

The clipping effect -seems i for got so set every mesh to one sided in their attributes ,and she does have an interior

sorry for those glithes, once Kazeite sneds me the model in smaller parts ill take care of all of them

The camera problem might be different in AoP/CoAS as opposed to PotC; I'm not sure... :?

I understand where deckBP.tga.tx and alpha.tga.tx are used on the new Black Pearl.
However, I already had those files. So where were they used before?

alpha.tga.tx wasent used in previous pearl models ,and for that camera problem fond it seems some of mast pollys got attached to the hull geomtry
after reattaching them to the mast everything works fine

If I'm not mistaken, "deckBP.tga.tx" is used by the Black Pearl 2.0, or some other conversion. But still, new version is different :)

- There's some points where apparently two surfaces with different textures are on the same spot.
Well, they're actually supposed to be slightly above and below each other, to give intended effect - they were simply affected by this exporting bug.

And, yes, the cabin interior very much still exists in this version, as you can ascertain by opening the ship in GMViewer :)

Allrighty then! :woot

Windows!.jpg

Now tell me this doesn't look awesome. I dare ya :d:

ZarethPL has simply outdone himself this time :)

Still, it's not technically finished - I still need to make path file invisible, untangle some mimatched locators, add rope railing, and... stuff. But, if you want to download her, be my guest :D

Of course, she doesn't have SAILROSPOINT, but, if I'm not mistaken, the previous version, ported to CoAS, does, right?

Oh, yeah, and I can totally climb up to crows nest, but a) it's very awkward, and b) I can't really see much from there :wp

Yes, it does look pretty. Too bad PotC doesn't support lighted stern lantarns. Ah... one day...

Seconded on both accounts. :yes

So, Pieter and, everyone, in your opinion, is it worth it having climbable crows nest?

Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you another "upgrade" - all three ships boats are actually separate from the main hull, so, if you want to make yourself AWE Pearl, all you need to do is to remove appropriate locator :)

u dont need to remove any locators ,u can just delete the gm file containing those boats

She is absolutely gorgeous! Fantastic work mates! :cheers
