There is also a 130+ meg video of the ship to ship fighting, I just finished downloading it and have started uploading to the PA! server. My initial impression is GAWD this game is beautiful the ship models are excellent it the whole theme itself is very well done. Gameplay from the video seems very similar to the POTC & AOP games from Akella, having not played it myself though these are just observations. I would like to know from some of the people who have played both, is it the same gameplay wise? Download the video in the PA! files area HERE YO HO HO! PIRATES OF THE BURNING SEATM SETS SAIL TODAYw Online PC Game Delivers Unique Swashbuckling Action Experience
SAN DIEGO, CA – Jan. 22, 2008 – Grab your parrot, raise the gang plank and ready the cannons with Pirates of the Burning Sea™ (PotBS), the hotly anticipated online PC game where players can clash on land and sea. This new title from Sony Online Entertainment LLC’s (SOE) Platform Publishing label, and Flying Lab Software LLC (FLS), is available today at participating retail outlets worldwide and as a digital download through and for a suggested retail price of US$49.99, with a monthly subscription fee of US$14.99 plus applicable taxes.
“After years of hard work by our top-notch crew, we are thrilled to announce players can now conquer the virtual Caribbean, circa 1720, in Pirates of the Burning Sea,” said Russell Williams, CEO of Flying Lab Software in Seattle. “Working together with SOE’s Platform Publishing, we are able to launch this game simultaneously in the U.S. and Europe and release localized versions in English, French, Spanish and German, allowing players from all over to captain a ship in this world full of swashbuckling and high-seas adventure.”
Players start by joining the French, Spanish, English or Pirate nations as a naval officer, freetrader, privateer or pirate. At sea, players can blow enemy ships out of the water. On land, players can engage in a world of action and peril rife with sword fights. A unique economy lets players become captains of industry, running mines, lumber mills, shipyards and other large-scale operations. Players produce all the various goods needed to supply others with the raw materials to conquer the Caribbean, one port at a time. A player-generated content system lets gamers create their own sail and flag designs and even model their own ships.
Set in the New World circa 1720, PotBS recreates a dramatic time of conflict and riches with action for every play style, from epic ship combat to building an empire. With more than one thousand missions per nation, dozens of ports to explore, and the entire Caribbean as their domain, players will find an online experience like no other.
Pirates of the Burning Sea game features:
• Join one of four nations (Pirate, English, French, or Spanish)
• Every player is the captain of their very own ship in massive naval battles
• Duel other players to control more than 80 conquerable ports in the Caribbean
• Explore the world and make a name for yourself with more than 1,000 missions per nation
• Economy driven by players, who manufacture and sell all ships and equipment found in the game
• Take command of more than 50 historical ships
• Design your own flags and sails
• Build your very own or customize any of the ships in-game to your liking
• Choose from three different combat styles – deadly and formal Fencing, flashy, dual-wielding Florentine or rowdy and treacherous Dirty Fighting
• Participate in epic PvP sea battles with up to 25 players per side

1"what the?"
at Wednesday, 23 January 2008 13:59by DEad man walking um.... if there is player made encomy, what if it falls too low or prices go to high? might even end badly, hey by theway why is it that theres pirates? so no goveners or what? why not add houses and a big cost to build a port but you goota buy the land. Also add the abilty to be a pirate but like sell your ship and live in a port and manufacture stuff then be a pirate when u get lots of money. Actuly that would be smart....

at Wednesday, 23 January 2008 14:04by Keith You remember a while ago there was a game called "Pirates Online". It was supposed to be a modular game where adding on was easy, the developer ended up being bought by Rockstar and made only console games. But in that game they were going to let you be a soldier, carpenter, guv, and so on. Had heaps of potential and looked good as well.

at Wednesday, 23 January 2008 14:18by Inzane there where some items in the auction house that just made me scratch my head. they had Nails going for a mil a piece. talk about price gouging. But the gameplay is very close to AOP and POTC. At some points it gets boring and drawn out, there is a lack of a good story. the game is really graphically stunning. but that comes with a price. Lag and lots of it.from what I heard there will be 3 distributors. SOE .Akella ,and a unknown for Australia, I will be willing to give Akella a try. I wonder how they will do it there. Free to play maybe, but you buy bonuses ? Some for some of us to follow

at Wednesday, 23 January 2008 18:46by Franz I cannot really understand the news: it\\\'s a mmorpg, they have always a monthly charge (and the subscription seems to me in-par with the market), and SOE is only the distributor, has nothing to do with the forum or the community...
And there aren\\\'t 3 distributors, just one, and will never be free to play 5 Comment
at Wednesday, 23 January 2008 21:08by Keith If it's in par with the market there should not be an issue, I was curios about WOW's initial release cost though to compare. I also don't think it will ever be free as it defeats the purpose of it.

at Thursday, 24 January 2008 03:25by Inzane Franz my info comes right from the horses mouth. In Russia Akella is doing the disputation, and the game gets a slight name change to, drum roll please. \\\"Corsairs Online\\\" http://akella-online.ru/games.php?id=6. SOE has no power there. read for yourself. On the Russian side there are is alot of talking about the method of payment. One of the option being talked about is the free to play method. but to gain perks you have to pay for those. if you want a uber badass ship you buy it with real cash. if you want speedy XP growth , you pay for that to. better cloths, again you pay for that. better swords you pay for that also. this method is very popular on that side of the world. such games as Silkroads uses this method, and they make more money than you would think. http://www.silkroadonline.net/. As for our Aussie friends this come from a Friend at FLS. There are talks going on, time will tell on this one .
As for the fourms You have to link your forum account wi 7"Shipwright to AOP & POTC"
at Thursday, 24 January 2008 03:45by Inzane with SOE. For example 2 days ago SOE shut down their servers and the fourms over at POTBS ended up being locked, paying clients could not post til the relaunch the following day. So yes SOE is running the show, and flexing the muscles to show whos boss. It does not take a wizard to figure that out , Not to mention SOE screwed up the whole launch for thousands of players. So if SOE ever decided to pull the plug, FLS is screwed because SOE is so integrated into their systems. Even parts of the Game code itself will have to be redone because they are SOE DLL components. unless you been living under a rock for the past 2 months, these are the facts. Just ask the folks who used to play SWG about this. All the same things where said when that game launched. and all the same problems. All players need to know the FACTS before they invest their time and money. And if there are going to be alternatives to distribution they should know the Facts. As a consumer I would want to know these things.
