Now it will be available on another digital distribution platform besides GOG.
It seems strange of Akella to re-re-release a 17 years old game, so maybe there is hope for POTC (probably as "Sea Dogs 2" I guess).
It is scheduled to be unlocked for playing on 12th January 2018 and it hasn't got a price tag yet, so you can only wishlist it for now, not buy it yet (at least in Poland, but this may be caused by the recent great currency switch on our local Steam branch, so better check for your country, link to store page below).
I think someone more qualified should make an annoucement on the PA front page, but that's just my opinion, I'm very happy to share the good news.
My son has this game (Alpha) and it looks intriguing. The 3D modelling is cartoon like but the sea graphics are awesome looking. There are several realism aspects to the sailing as well. Sail up to dock, anchor or pull up anchor, tweaking the shape of the sails and more. Not sure about the strategics aspects of the game yet though. Of course being cartoon like the ship models are not faithful to dimensions or paint schemes. Islands look like toy Lego towns. It seems to be geared more toward fun then simulation. The intent is for multi-player where larger ships will need other players as crew. This will add a new level of experience to the pirate gaming community. Due to be released in a few months.
I just found this game in kickstarter. It seems that the project fail...but my god, is so promising!
Did anyone know about this? maybe New Horizons could be expanded with this?...
Only ideas, but I think I found the game of my life...and is gone... q.q
Want to try out a forum game of a different kind?
One, where your very own tactics are challenged and cooperation with others is recommended, if not necessary?
Then try out the new forum game... Steel Waters!
In this narrative-driven competitive teamgame intended for 8 players you embarge on large battleships in a Schizo-Tech-scenario to battle each other on the high seas - at night.
What do you say? Simply shooting broadsides at the enemy is enough to win? I don't think so!
Your ships might be equipped with state-of-the-art-technology and their armament may bear enough firepower to burn entire coastal cities - but dozens of years of lacking maintenance due to insufficent resources have taken their toll on the vessels, so that you will have to handle the systems manually, even suffering technical failures in the worst cases which your enemy can abuse to either score cheap shots at you or improve their own defenses. Will you try to turn your mighty...
Not really pirate games per se, but there are two promising naval indie games about whale hunting that I'd like to share.
Nnatucket (Picaresque Studio) is a strategy seafaring game set around the 1820s, heavily inspired by Moby Dick (it can be considered kind of a sequel, as you can play as Ismael if you so choose). You have to hire and manage a crew with different specialisations, upgrade your ship and of course sail around the world in pursuit of whales to fill your hold with precious oil, all while fending off pirates and dealing with different events that pop up during your voyage. It has a tabletop-like combat system for both whale hunting and pirate-fighting, with card decks and dice. It's already in its closed beta phase and will be releasing shortly, one would expect.
This next one, on the other hand is still very early in development, I discovered it today precisely through Picaresque's twitter account....
A new version of New Horizons Remastered has just been released on Itch.io, bringing a few new features, improvements and fixes that add a bit of polish to the experience. Read on for the highlights!
Dynamic Sky and Weather
We've added the Tenkoku Dynamic Sky asset to the game, which produces spectacular skies and weather effects on the fly. It features a full day/night transition, which we've set to an accelerated rate for this build so you can experience the full cycle in a short time. A longer cycle will be introduced in the next release....
Today, I'm very excited to reveal New Horizons Remastered; a new project to immortalise our much-loved New Horizons mod for PotC in the Unity engine, as a standalone game.
Starting right now, you can play a short tech demo that incorporates several assets and locations from the New Horizons mod and reimagines them with modern graphics while emulating the same gameplay mechanics.
